Microsoft announced at PDC 2008 yesterday that the project they have been working on for cloud computing called Red Dog has a final name as Azure (azh'?r). At a dinner function last night there was some debate on the proper pronunciation of the word, but it's origins are pretty clear. It comes from the Persian, for the location of the Lapis Lazuli.
So I am at the PDC this year with the Together @ PDC2008 program from Microsoft. This allows various people to go to the PDC with Microsoft Employees. This year I am buddied up with Chris Bowen, my Regional Developer Evangelist.
Ok, so I am really bored tonight and avoiding working on some presentations I need to finish, but this was just a little bit of fun. The great minds at Microsoft thought that it would be interesting to make the PDC brain 'intelligent' and offer up a web site where you can ask it questions. It reminded me a bit of those old Eliza-esque programs that basically repeated back what you said in question for, but only less knowledgeable. Below is a snippet of our 'conversation'.
I was just checking out the PDC site for the upcoming event and noticed that they had added more sessions. Now I had already gone and added a bunch of interesting sessions to my schedule, most of my time slots are now triple or even quadruple booked. I got quite a shock as I was looking at the neat tag cloud thingy they have for browsing the sessions by topic
I haven't been to a PDC since 1997. The big announcement that year was 'ActiveX'. It was a great event and I have high hopes for this years event as well. This year the topic seems to be 'cloud computing'. I'm going to enjoy steeping myself into this technology. I just found out that Don Box is now going to be part of the keynote as well. It's sure to be a great time and there'll be more reports here ......
