You know, as much as I tend towards sardonic pontification on the matter, I secretly hoped that the developers of FireFox could Get It Right (tm).  They are finding out now that it's not so easy to do.  This current vulnerability, the first FireFox hole to be classed as Extremely Critical involves their implementation of extensions.  Just as a rose by any other name would smell as sweet; ActiveX in the guise of extension is open to defeat.

And so, while the capture of 7% of the browser market share is no small accomplishment, one cannot escape the bitter-sweet irony of it all.  The more popular you are, the more of a target you become.

They have a release candidate available that addresses the issue.  It means a full upgrade rather than a patch like always.  The release candidate to final version cycle is usually very short with FireFox so by the end of the week it may be ready.  I'm not sure if that makes me feel better or not.  A short Beta/RC cycle simply means less time for testing and an increased risk that any regression bugs may go unnoticed.

Oh wait!  I forgot.  FireFox doesn't have bugs or security issues.

Never mind.
