The Life and Times of a Dev Yes, we're really that weird

I'm sure I'll receive at least one comment about my source for this, but the points that Steven Milloy makes are really quite good.

The pattern of heating and cooling has been happening for the entire life of the planet. The world is a very big place, and we just don't know enough to say that we're changing the climate of the planet. As short as 30 years ago we had the popular press telling us we were going to have another ice age! Why would we think they're any more reliable now?

If you want proof, look how most global warming fanatics now use "global climate change" rather than global warming. The facts didn't support global warming, so they had to change their terminology.

In my very un-fact based opinion, global warming people have four causes for their beliefs:

 1. They receive lots of money to do the research.
 2. Their company receives lots of money to do the research.
 3. They're anti-capitalists or communists.
 4. They don't do research, and man being evil is appealing to them, so they believe the propaganda that they hear.

If you look at the real scientific data around global climate change, you'll see that at best, it's inconclusive (the result of many scientific studies where you don't have enough data).

In the true spirit of agile development, lets not do big design up front when we don't have enough data to make decisions.

Well, it boils down to this:

1 - If global warming is a hoax, and money is spent on it, all that will happen is...nothing. It will just cost money.

2- If it's real and we do nothing, it could wipe out the human race.

This seems like buying insurance, not fun but necessary. So then I have to wonder who benefits from putting out the message I read in your post? I've heard that exact verbiage verbatim on the radio, online and elsewhere. Obviously someone doesn't want us to beleive in global warming.

Hmmm...I wonder, who would benefit...would it be, oh I don't know...Big Oil, perhaps? Nah, couldn't be.

Good to see that one man is standing out against all the people who have studied the climate for the last 100 or so years.

People seem to forget the fact that it's not Al Gore saying these things, nor is it that danged evil "Popular Press". It is reputable climatologists who publish in peer-reviewed journals and who know about gamma rays, sunspots and all of the other things climate change skeptics want to try to blame.

And yes, Millroy is not entirely credible.

Interesting opinion. Among other things, you note about "global warming people" (fanatics? are they one and the same?) that "They receive lots of money to do the research." Steven Milloy certainly receives large amounts of money from Tobacco and Oil companies.

About the only thing I agree with in either your opinion or Steven Milloy's is that we don't know enough. But we certainly know more than you or he think we do.

It's definitely worth googling Steven Milloy, if only for things like this:

I have to agree with the first person there have been too many researchers, especially in the artic who have discovered this process and can date it back to 2000 years instead of the 10-20 years most "global warming" spastics believe. Just 30 years ago the world was worried about freezing over, isn't this enough proof to say that there is a cycle going on? If not you may be able to find the research done on the net.

What is it with you Americans?!?!

You'd rather take the risk of wiping out the planet than trading in your SUV for something more environmentally friendly?

Jeez!!!

Every year, the polar caps melt further, our weather gets more irregular (more weatherextreem records broken this year than ever before!) and the global temperature rises more each year.
Sure there is a natural cycle, but all the signs are there! We people are seriously contributing to the global warming. Wake up, man!

P.S.
I'm not a left wing, muesli eating anti globalist. I love driving my big car. But even I realize something's got to be done to prevent my children living in a 'water world' cause of melting polar caps.

Global warming is a complete scam. I wish these supposed activists would actually do some of there own investigating and see that the majority of scientists DO NOT believe it is happening. Only a select few but the mainstream media makes it out to seem the other way around. Scientists use computer models to forecast this so called warming but the information input into the models are biased to begin with. We cant even get a 3 day forecast correct and we are looking 30 years down the line. Yeah Right.

It is said that anti-global warming people are either religious apocalypse nuts or oil company zealots. For the record I am a humanist who composts, drives a small diesel car and recycles when sensible. Big companies and government lie all the time (Iraq for example) and is more than capable of producing its own propaganda without my help. I also read a lot and have a background in science.

Follow the money is the maxim and the allies will be support each other. In this case the anti-money is on cars, oil, meat and probably defence and the religious right. On the pro side are scientific researchers, greenwashers, environmental pressure groups and more recently CARBON OFFSET TRADERS (the real big scam).

When they say that the arctic is melting faster than ever, it has only been monitored since 1980. We therefore have no idea what the true state should be. Global changes like this need to be viewed over 10,000 years not a few decades. If this is done any recent changes fall well within the parameters we are seeing.

These end-of-the-world scenarios are ONLY computer projections that say if so and so happens such and such will happen (in 300 years time). Other computer models will show the opposite but only the disaster ones are being broadcast.

This is all to make money for the Carbon traders and will probably turn out to be as big a fraud as Enron.

Ask yourself this. If Al Gore really believes his message is the most important message ever why hasn't he released it as a free streaming video? So far it has made $49 million. It must have recovered its production costs.

There is no God. There is no Allah. Jesus never existed.
Still billions believe. Why should they not believe this?
I became a humanist after reading the Bible not because I hadn't.
Challenge everything. Accept nothing. Do your own research.

AS THE PLANET HEATS UP, YOU DON’T HAVE TO!

AP – Al Gore has for a long time been full of hot air. He has a vivid imagination about the world. His mistrust of the seasons seems to stem from an episode of the Twilight Zone, in which the Earth gets too close to the Sun. Al is probably the single individual who has done most to create greater worldwide understanding of the measures needed to create a more effective global antiperspirant.

If college roommate Tommy Lee Jones, could save the City of Los Angeles from errant magma (Volcano), and the world entire from an extraterrestrial cockroach (Men In Black), then Al Gore deserves a prize for his initiative to combat global wetness. The same trusted formula that kept our leaders dry during the Cold War. Clinton tested: guaranteed to leave no trace.

The committee that awarded Al Gore the Nobel Prize included a university president, a theologian, and a consultant. Moe, Larry, and Curly could not be reached for comment. And, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, with whom Gore shares the prize, does not carry out research, nor does it monitor climate or related phenomena. Given the newfound legitimacy for Global Warming, a “private group” out of Monterey, California, vies to seed the North Atlantic with iron oxide to help plankton absorb carbon dioxide (greenhouse gasses). Strategy: “cleanup the planet and make a buck on the side.”

So, to whom did Al Gore donate the $1.8 million dollar Nobel purse? Who is the Alliance for Climate Protection? Perhaps not coincidentally, Al Gore is the founder and chairman of the § 501(c)(3) alliance. Three guesses who the IPCC are. But why should science be immune from grasping politicians? Aren’t they doing “good” for the collective? Aren’t their distortions justified, because they’re better than? Isn’t this the psychology of the left? After all, when it came to pirating the “Peace Dividend” to create that new cultural paradigm, didn’t the ends justify the means: http://theseedsof9-11.com

///I'm sure I'll receive at least one comment about my source for this, but the points that Steven Milloy makes are really quite good.///

I seriously doubt that, and here is why:

///The pattern of heating and cooling has been happening for the entire life of the planet. ///

Just how old are you? A few million years?

/// The world is a very big place, and we just don't know enough to say that we're changing the climate of the planet. ///

Ahem... statistical analysis? 100 years of scientific history? Rings a bell??

///As short as 30 years ago we had the popular press telling us we were going to have another ice age! Why would we think they're any more reliable now?///

I'm just throwing it out there but i have this nagging feeling that they MIGHT be more reliable because of... PROGRESS??? Did we have televisions 100 years ago? What about computers and the Internet? And before you say it... no... we don't have microwave ovens because Aliens from outer space brought all this wonderful technology to us. WE INVENTED IT. Yep... pretty smart this human race, huh?

/// you want proof, look how most global warming fanatics now use "global climate change" rather than global warming. The facts didn't support global warming, so they had to change their terminology.///

Proof in... terminology? Oh yeah... that settles it! It definitely makes sense NOW!

/// In my very un-fact based opinion, global warming people have four causes for their beliefs:///

Now please somebody tells me why i should trust YOUR un-fact-based opinion:

/// 1. They receive lots of money to do the research.///

When was the last time you saw Stephen Hawking racing up and down Sunset Boulevard in his Lamborghini?

/// 2. Their company receives lots of money to do the research. ///

What company? The universities? Sorry i might be blunt but I DEFINITELY HOPE SO!! Considering the status of education nowadays being neglected in favor of building weapons and supporting our troops! Sheesh...

/// 3. They're anti-capitalists or communists.///

OK i REFUSE to comment on that. It's so retarded i think it gave me cancer.

/// 4. They don't do research, and man being evil is appealing to them, so they believe the propaganda that they hear.///

That's a pretty idiotic statement considering you have no proof. Also it's so cliche' even Noam Chomsky and Moore would be laughing their asses off right now.

///; If you look at the real scientific data around global climate change,///

which you don't have and didn't even bother looking for

/// you'll see that at best, it's inconclusive (the result of many scientific studies where you don't have enough data).///

yep... just like every word of this pointless essay.

///; In the true spirit of agile development, lets not do big design up front when we don't have enough data to make decisions.///

I agree! Anybody who can't back up their statement please shut the hell up.

I loved every minute of it.

Get real, pak je biezen.
Of je bent te dom om hier te mogen wonen, of je hebt veel te veel terecht te verliezen.
